Add A Group

Add Item

The Add Item Module contains all of the create functionality for every Object in the portal. Always start by finding the object you wish to add from the list of items in the Add Item Module (+ Sign). To add an Asset Group, select Add Asset Group from the list.

Add Asset Group

Users will be asked to provide the following information when creating a Group.

Main tab
  • Name: Set the asset group name
  • Color: Set the display color for the asset group
  • Parent: If the group is a subgroup, select the parent group. Subgroups allow further filtering and batching within a larger Group. This feature typically benefits large organizations that parse Assets to managers by Group and then allow the managers to Subgroup them as if it were a top level directory.
  • Message destination ID: Method for routing text messages between devices that do not support address books. Template is “{Destination ID}:{Message}”. A quick example is device A has an ID of “1” and device B has an ID of “2”, device A can send a message to device B by typing “2:hello device B”
Users tab

Select the Users for whom this Group will be visible by clicking the box next to their names. The search box allows users to quickly find the specific names they wish to include, and the Select All/Select None buttons allow for quick filtering. Any User with a green check mark next to its name will be able to view and interact with the Group.

Assets tab

Select the Assets that will be included in this Group by clicking the box next to their names. The search box allows users to quickly find the specific Assets they wish to include, and the Select All/Select None buttons allow for quick filtering. Any Asset with a green check mark next to its name will be included in the Group.

Creating Groups from Other Features

Users can always create a Group from the Add Item menu, but as is the case with other features in the application, Groups can be initiated from other features as a shortcut with pre-populated fields based on activity from other parts of the portal.

Groups from Geofences

Users can create a Group from the Geofences feature by opening the Geofence Options in the Details Panel.

  1. From the Geofences module, click on the Geofence from which the group will be created, then click the cog button next to that Geofence to open the Details Panel.
  2. From there, click Group Assets, and the Add Asset Group form will populate with the Assets currently inside the fence added to the Group by default.
  3. Users can remove any Assets they wish to exclude from the group or add any additional Assets they wish to include manually by clicking the box next to that Asset’s name. Any Asset with a green check mark next to its name will be included in the Group.
  4. Name the Group and choose a Color attribute for it.
  5. If it is to be a subgroup, identify the parent Group from the drop-down menu.
  6. Select the Users for whom this Group will be visible by clicking the box next to their names. The search box allows users to quickly find the specific names they wish to include, and the Select All/Select None buttons allow for quick filtering. Any User with a green check mark next to its name will be able to view and interact with the Group.

Alternatively, users can initiate this process by clicking any Geofence on the map interface.

  1. Click the Geofence to open the Geofence Details box on the map view.
  2. Click the dot menu to open the Quick Actions for the Geofence.
  3. From the Quick Actions menu, select Group Assets to open the same form as above, and follow the same steps to create a Group.
